When getting a website built or re-built, there's two things you have to make absolutely certain of:
If the answer is no to either of these, then it is unlikely you will ever do well in search engines, which is how your website brings you new business.
A common problem is the "flash site" - no, not strippers - flash. That wonderful technology with animated banners, glitzy effects and awesome looking transitions. There's a problem though - Google doesn't read flash (yet). Your site will look fantastic, it may even be easy to navigate. But you get very little search engine benefit. Very rarely to flash sites rank well in search engines and if they do, its usually because there is also a plain text site in the background.
Good uses of flash are banners, advertisements and "cool things" around the edges - usually, "things on the move". Bad uses of flash are content (text) and menus/navigation.
Adding new content on a flash website can be very difficult. Even if its not a flash website, you should ensure that you can in fact learn to edit your own pages. Make sure you can add new ones. And make sure that there are freely available resources that you can find and use to help yourself along. If you cannot do these things, then you will have to pay for each and every update, even if it is just moving a heading or adding a full stop.

At the end of October, 2010, Google changed the way it presented a majority of search results. The changes made are nothing short of a complete turn-around.
Any time a user searches for a location and a service/product, the most read results nearly always come from the Google Places search engine and not the "natural" Google results.
This change means that it is now possible for your business to be found more easily when people search on your business location.
As always, we're here to help. Our opinion is that these changes cannot afford to be ignored and should be acted upon immediately. The good news is that you don't actually have to have a "website designer" do something about it - its not too difficult to do it yourself! From here, you could:
